Piper, Beloved Family Member and Therapy Dog; 11/24/2013 - 4/6/2021

Piper was rescued as a puppy in Taiwan by Tiramisu Rescue, adopted by our family at 10 months, and joined our "pack" of 2 other dogs and 2 cats. Piper's sweet and loving nature was evident from a young age. She enjoyed learning new things but really came alive when she could play - racing & wrestling with her Pack Members, swiping toys and prancing around the yard, jumping full speed into the sand box and digging with glee as she kicked sand four feet into the air. Piper worked hard on her training and in 2015, she became a registered Therapy Dog with Pet Partners and joined the Animal Health Foundation's Caring Creatures program. Piper helped me to fulfill my dream of returning to the Pet Therapy Program at Children's Hospital of Orange County at Mission Hospital. She loved doing tricks and snuggling with the young patients, their family members & friends, and Staff. Piper was courageous but a horribly aggressive cancer took her in less than a month, even though we did everything we could to help her. My heart aches and my spirit is crushed without my lovable and funny Companion by my side. Piper touched the lives of everyone she met - she was unique and exceptional in so many ways. As one of her Vet Specialists said, "She packed a great deal of purpose and love into much too short of a life. You two shared a special bond in caring for others and I can only imagine the pain of your loss. You were truly blessed to have found each other." Piper was a wonderful blessing in my life and I am so grateful for the years we had volunteering together and making pet therapy visits. I am also so thankful for the inspirational volunteers at Tiramisu that rescued and fostered Piper and for all the amazing people that supported us at Animal Health Foundation and Children's Hospital of Orange County - they enabled us to bring care, comfort and smiles to others through pet therapy visits. With deep appreciation and a broken heart, Janell Keider Dear Lord, Please open your gates and call an angel To come escort this beloved companion across the Rainbow Bridge. Assign her to a place of honor, for she has been A faithful friend and has always done her best to please me. Let her remember me and let her know that I will always love her. Thank you for the gift of her love and for the time we've had together. (Adapted from poem, author unknown)
