Our Sweet Boy
We rescued our Jack two years ago, just before we got married. I spotted his picture on a local animal hospital's facebook page. He was already grown, but the second I met him I knew he had to come to our home. It took a full month to socialize him and our other cat. However, it wasn't long after and he was an amazing companion to our cat Gordo and a loved addition to my husband and I.
There was never a dull moment with Jack, when he wanted attention he got it with a loving head butt to your leg, arm, hand, head etc... He loved to be pet everywhere and he could never sit still, because the loving was so good. He would move around all over you to make sure you pet every inch of his body.
We often called Jack, "Jack the Creeper", because you would turn around and there he would be silently waiting in a nook or cranny watching you quietly like a soldier on guard. There is nothing more startling than being in a quiet room making a bed and turn to see cat eyes peering at you from the closet. The closet was his absolute favorite place to roam, in and out, in and out he would go. Maybe he had an obsession for shoes.
If the day was quiet, you could find Jack soaking up the sunlight behind the curtains, feeling the cool breeze in his whiskers by the open door, or cuddled up tight at the foot of our bed. He had no care in the world. At night, you could find him searching for his "babies" to play. He LOVED cat nip toys and he also loved to kick them under the couch and entertainment center. I'm going to miss rescuing them for a full two hours until they were back under there.
A few quirky things about Jack. If there was a dust bunny ANYWHERE, he would find it and eat it. Yes, eat it. I can't even tell you how many times I saw him reach under furniture to pull out a dust ball and eat it. Silly cat. When he wanted to look around the room he would do a head roll to see everything versus actually turning his head or body. He had the quietest purr you could imagine, but he did purr. He absolutely loved to spoon any chance he could get. He slept at the foot of my husband's side of the bed. When I was pregnant and got up in the middle of the night, he saw that as permission to come up and spoon.
He followed my husband around like he was his shadow, including the late night and early morning diaper changes with our newborn baby. Jack saw baby Alyssa as HIS pet, or human. He adored her and took to her right away. He head butted her right when we got home from the hospital. He used to run to her when she cried, he would look at me like "I've got this" or "What's wrong with this thing, it won't shut up". She usually stopped crying when he came over, because even at 6 months old she loved to grab at his fur. Jack was never aggressive, he just let her grab and pet him.
Jack is so loved by us, he will be missed so much. He was a normal, healthy, playful cat. The disease that ended his life came upon us unexpectedly. It happened so suddenly and that weighs heavy on our hearts. Jacks condition declined rapidly in just 12 hours of a diagnosis. We chose to be with him and show him comfort when he passed away. We did not want him to spend the night in the hospital alone and pass away. We wanted him to be right where he belonged, in our arms.
We love you and will miss you every single day. Our house is so lonely without you sweetie.
Love,
Mommy, Daddy and Alyssa
The veterinary teams at Advanced Veterinary Internal Medicine and Stonecreek Animal Hospital were so loving and caring to both Jack and us. We are so thankful, he was in such great hands.
