Yes there are laws that protect animals from abuse, but a cat or a dog is never considered a person through the eyes of the law. Pets do not inherit from their owners. I would like things to change and pets status to elevate. I would like owners to be considered as legal guardians of the pet rather than owners. I would like pets to have the right to ownership so that they can inherit the furniture from their owners and be able to receive life insurance. I want to make sure that my cat will be taken cared of well when I am gone. Unfortunately right now the law does not facilitate that. Lets hope for a change.
