Calvin
On an early September morn 13 years before
Calvin†s life would change forever more
He joyfully greeted me from his cell knowing he was about to be reborn
His happiness was immediate through the joy that he would bring
At last he had found a couple that he could entertain
Homeward bound he was happy as a Lark
And now he had a new found new freedom from where he could bark
His love for long walks and rolling in the grass knew no limits
And so he walked the Serrano Creek Trail year after year
Making so many new friends along the way all near and dear
He traveled the country from one end to the other
Ran amongst statues in memorials created for the Civil War
Looked a buffalo in the eye in Yellowstone although from a far
Climbed the mountains of California to enjoy pristine lakes
And least we forget he canoed in the Great Lakes
His energy was boundless as he loved an adventure
He loved to run on the beach be it west or east
And rolling in the grass made him happiest at times
And with the wag of his tail you knew he was just fine
With regret his life has come to an end
So forgive me if I weep as he was so sweet
His memory will linger with me and bring a smile to my face
Knowing him will always remain one of my greatest treats
