EULOGY FOR SCOTTY

Lord here's a story, I'd like to tell. I only hope, I can tell it well. About an animal, that came to me; Not just a dog, but a greyhound you see. I'll tell you about this critter I got. He's big and black, and his name is SCOTT. Ment him at a place they rescue greyhounds you see; This big guy came over to sniff around on me. With big black eyes, and a helicopter tail, He wanted me to somehow, if I could pay his bail. Then peed on my leg, wagged his tail, and I knew Giving him a home and love, was the thing to do. From that day on we never looked back. With all the turnoil, play and love we never lacked. It took time to settle into his new domain; But then as king, he began to reing. As the years went quickly by, and grew old, So many memories, are still untold. Like he'd dig a hole, so deep and round; You could plant a tree, and not disturb the ground. Then late at night, he'd come to me; So we both could go outside and pee. At night he'd sit and cry, for an apple to eat; Gues he thought how I cut them, was neat. Then sit in the kitchen and beg to my wife; Cutting carrots and grapes, with a paring knofe. He figured if the birds and rodents got a share, A few for him, would only be fair. A squeekie ball was his favorite toy. And playing fetch would bring so much joy. He'd nap beside me on the couch now and then; I always knew, I was with a friend. Now brapped in his blanket, with toys all around; I've placed him gently, in the ground. And saying prayer, I slowly replace the dirt; Thankful at last, my friend doesn't hurt. Though he's gone now, this I know, He has a journey, where he must go; Over the rainbow bridge, so far away; And through my memories, every day.... 7.10.11 Rex Lawton
